Opening Friday, Feb. 11, 2011

10 February 2011

Thanks to the Rawlins Daily Times for running this great story on the western art show I’m currently hanging at Rawlins Main Street Gallery! They were also kind enough to run a front page photo.

I’m super-excited that the gallery is hosting Saratoga artist Jerry Palen, as well as Rural Images, a travelling exhibit from University of Wyoming American Heritage Center, for the first time ever! Also, my contribution to the show, an exhibit of Depictions of Western Life by our house artists at the gallery has been fun, thought-provoking and fulfilling to curate.

I hope if you’re in the Carbon County area you’ll come out to join us on Friday evening from 5-8 PM for the opening.

Rawlins Main Street Gallery is located at 400 W. Cedar Street in Rawlins, Wyoming.

New Teaching Position

19 January 2011

Hello Again!

So much is going on, and on top of it all, I’m very excited to be teaching my first course for Carbon County Higher Education Center, Introduction to Pencil Drawing! CCHEC has recently formed a partnership with Rawlins Main Street Gallery to share a studio space on site at the gallery. We are all very pleased to offer classes in various media to children, teens and adults at the new Rawlins Main Street Gallery Cooperative Art Studio. How convenient for me that I also work at the gallery as the Managing Consultant; stop in to say hi Tuesday through Saturday, or call to enroll for a class!

On and on, on the beat goes…

17 January 2011

Well it’s been longer than I’d like it to have been, but I’ve finally fully moved into my new studio and gotten back to work, proper. Happily I did manage to make a few new pieces this fall while my “studio” was more accurately just a pile of trash in the middle of the room than a workspace–these included my work for the show Boxed In and Out, and some jewelry, to be posted soon–but now I’m ready to get back into my thing. Here’s a collage of views in my new space. Look for more photo work in this vein to come soon: I took scads of digital photographs while moving across the country this summer!

26 December 2010

I am pleased to announce that I will be co-curating the exhibition Documenting the New West with Joshua Ray Smith. The show will run from February 11 – March 22, 2011 at Rawlins Main Street Gallery and Carbon County Higher Education Center in central Rawlins, WY.

Artists in the western Rocky Mountain region are invited to submit entries in all media that reflect regional documentation in the spirit–but not necessarily the style–of Bill Gollings. A prospectus is available here. The deadline for entries is January 14, 2011.

I can’t wait to see the submissions we receive!

New Work and BETA Spaces Update

10 November 2010

First of all, I am thrilled to announce that I spoke with Eric Leiser today and he invited me to show in his exhibition Transmutation at 255 McKibbin Street #1A; the show is an examination of contemporary American surrealist practices and will be held THIS SUNDAY (!) November 14, from 12-7 PM as part of the BETA Spaces festival in Brooklyn. I mailed a box of work to Eric today, and can’t wait to see what he decides to show!

You can read some press about BETA Spaces:

in the Village Voice

in NYPost

in L Magazine

on bushwickbk.com

in indiegogo

in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle

I am also excited to report that I finished my piece for the show Boxed In and Out, and sent it off to New York yesterday. Here are some images of how it turned out:

And last for today, an image of the prints I will be exhibiting in Home Sweet?. These are from a book of screen prints with laser-cut text entitled CONTROL, and are particularly near and dear to me. I’m so excited to have this chance to show them!
